Happy Chicks started from our commitment to animal welfare and a love of great tasting quality eggs.

Our Happy Chicks live on 10 acres of rolling green pastures in Magical Mangawhai. The girls are free to roam and graze and forage all day on bugs, grubs, worms and grass.  They have extra large warm dry hen houses, providing them shelter, perches and private nesting boxes.

Why Pasture Grazed and not just Free Range?

After we investigated different styles of free range egg farms we discovered that sadly not all free range eggs are produced by hens that are free to roam in nature.

We also found some amazing examples here in New Zealand that inspired us to create the best!  So at our farm we have created an environment where our hens can run in the sun, shelter in the rain, dust bathe in sand, throw worms around and all that fun stuff that Happy Chicks like to do.

We have 500 Happy Chicks per acre of land. We have movable hen houses so our hens are always living on fresh replenished green pastures. By revolving the grazing periods and spaces, all the goodness from the chicken poop and the scratchings helps rejuvenate the soil and pasture for sustainability and a continuous pasture grazed home.

The Happy Chicks do all the hard work and we help keep them safe and healthy. It’s the least we can do considering how they reward us with such a delicious premium product.
